I really get a chuckle out of #GURPShooks.

So I've started to keep a list of ones I come up with for GURPS Prime Directive:

  1. You beam down to a planet, only to find the natives are worshiping a ancient Teddy Ruxpin with a Pantera tape in it.
  2. You beam onto Alpha Blue for shore leave and wake up a different gender than you left the ship with.  Explain this one to your CO... Go!
  3. You find an artifact of extreme power and knowledge from an ancient alien race.  (player who finds this now has to switch places with the GM...    GM starts playing a character while chewing bubble gum loudly and texting the who game. this behavior is required.)
More to follow as I dream these up...

Backtrack 5 is out! Do you get a kernel panic when you startx? The FIX is here!

Go check out my Blog Post on PSKL.us about how I worked around my latest backtrack 5 issue with X.org...

I did a startx and it caused a kernel panic on my Lenovo X201 thinkpad.
    Full details are here.

    Enjoy!

    500mW USB Wireless Adapter goodness!

Alfa 500mW AWUS036H USB Wireless Adapter 802.11 b/g Network Radio Card is a win in Backtrack 4!

I picked up a Alfa USB Wireless Adapter about a month or so ago, and it's a definitely a good card for Backtrak 4.

I had to switch the realtek driver for it, and boom, every wireless utility a tried in BT4 worked great.

So to get the good love, follow my simple steps in BT4:
    vi /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist

find "blacklist r8187" (if you don't know how to use vi or vim, I weep for you.)
comment that out with the hash / pound / number / whateveryoucallitinyourworld "#", and add this line:
    blacklist rtl8187

save it and reboot. (too used to dealing winblows.. probably could remove it and rmmod the rtl8187)
it should be using the r8187 kernel module instead of the rtl8187.

Boom, kismet should work and all the other good stuff should work in BT4 with this good card.

A side item: if you've never used wepbuster to show someone how bad wep is, do it.
Eric and I wrote some scripts for DEFCON a few years ago to automatically crack WEP with the parts that were around then. This does something just like it, but seems to run through all the different vectors you could use. Basically, start it, and let it go... very handy!

    BackTrack 4 R1 is out.

BackTrack 4 R1 Release ISO is out!

Those of us who need to do Pentesting are very excited anytime Backtrack comes out with a new version.

The big thing for me is it finally supports my hardware on my Lenovo X201, and I got it loaded up already... ah... finally I can retire my old laptop with BT2 on it...

a good time will be had by all!
